GENERAL RULES
--This is a realistic Pokémon roleplay game. Yes, I am aware that Pokémon is very AU, but in order to make Pokémon more believable, it is important to be as realistic as possible. This means no special powers or improbably situations (e.g. Charmander with Bubble Beam, a six year-old kid with a Suicune, etc.)
--There is to be no power-playing. This means neither you nor your character can control someone else's character in any given post (e.g. killing, inflicting physical damage, controlling the whereabouts of a character that isn't your own).
--There is to be no god-moding. This means you cannot write a character who knows what another character is thinking; just because you can read the thoughts and opinions of someone else's character does not mean that your own character is able to do so.
--Be respectful. This site isn't paid; all of the admin here are working on this site on our own time. We do it because we want to. The writers on this site are very close and like family, and we would love to welcome you. Being respectful is a sure ticket in.
--Be active. I know sometimes real life is undeniably… real. So if you’re going to need some time off, just post an absence thread under the OOC/Chatter board. We will all understand. If you are not going somewhere, just lazy or feeling a bit of the old writer’s block, just say so. Keeping everyone updated is a good way to push through a bout of writers block without being removed from herds etc.
PLAYER RULES
--Kanto League operates on a one account per player basis, and not one account per character. This means that your username should not be the name of your first or favorite character. It can be anything within the realm of respect (you might be a sexy babe, but keep that on your side of the keyboard). Please do not use numbers, strange letters, and symbols; it makes it harder for everyone else to read and to type when necessary. The goal here is to have an easy-to-type nickname (e.g. gRav, Flinty, Karecha, Dawg, Brutal, etc.). Also, when using cBox, use this same name, as it helps us identify the speaker.
--If you have a problem with another player and feel you cannot avoid it, send that person a private message. If you would rather not speak to them, send me (gRav) a private message; I am happy to help you out.
ROLEPLAY RULES
--This is an advanced RP site. It is for people who wish to use correct grammar and punctuation and get better at writing. If you use any chat- or text-speak, your post will be deleted and you will be given a warning. Not only does it take away from the art of your writing but it also is difficult for some people to read. This also goes for the cBox, but if you slip up a few times, no worries.
--The minimum length for a post is 400 words, which is not hard to achieve if you put any effort into your posts. Please try to exceed this each time; short posts are hard to respond to and make the people who are writing a lot feel like they’re working hard for nothing.
--Please thoroughly read the post you are replying to before actually replying. If you have trouble in this department (and I do this all the time), take notes. Note what is being said, what is being done, the setting (time and place, weather, etc.).
--As for the issue of maturity and what is and isn’t allowed, I say have at it. Life is crude and raw and full of death and sex and hate and love and war and peace. Swear all you want, just keep it within taste. At a certain point, it overtakes the art of the post and becomes a useless pile of crap.
CHARACTER RULES
--Make sure the pictures you use for your characters are no wider than six hundred pixels (600px). They may be tall, but please do not stretch out the board; it’s annoying for those of us who don’t have huge screen computers. Also, out of courtesy for everyone’s eyes, try to use pictures that are focused and clear, and if you’re using something you don’t own, please credit the artist under or on the image.
--You may have as many characters as you can keep active, although you must post them a profile and being sure to cover what is listed in the generic profile (that is, if you are going to write up your own custom profile).
--Pokémon's sizes, colors, and markings should be true to the type. If you wish to make your Pokémon unique and add a marking, please be subtle, keep it within reason, and give a good explanation for it. It'd be great to see some interesting characters, but when it goes over the top, it become unrealistic.
--Nicknames for Pokémon should be creative and original. Try not to be offensive, as in racist or sexist. Just use your judgment.
BATTLING RULES
(in regards to two trainers battling/a trainer challenging a gym leader)
-- Any trainer who has Pokémon may challenge another trainer who has Pokémon, but both writers must agree to fight. Unless the outcome is plot-based (thus, fixed), a third party judge will evaluate the winner of each battle. Winners will be chosen based on post skill and creativity. If you feel you have been judged unfairly, I will create a poll and the members of the site will vote for the winner.
-- Level up realistically. You aren't going to get a Charmander and have a Charizard a week later. We all know it takes a long time to train your Pokémon, so make sure to write it that way too! =3
-- When making a challenge, the defendant has one week (seven days) to respond to the initial 'challenge thread'. If they do not respond to the initial challenge within three days, they forfeit by default, and the win goes to the challenger. If a player is on a leave, however, this rule does not apply until they come back and officially state their activity.
-- For judged battles, each combatant gets four posts; one post each for the intro to the battle, three posts each for the attacks, and one each for conclusion. I don't intend to apply rules as far as how many attacks and defenses. I only expect writers to respect the site's favor for realistic writing and make sure their characters are realistically strong (or weak).
-- A judged battle is finished when both combatants have written their four posts, and will then be judged by a qualified site member (in most cases, the Manager or Co-Manager, or in rarer cases, a specially-chosen site member). A judge may have up to three days to decide on a winner. If a judge does not return with a result, a new judge may be chosen based on qualifications.
MISCELLANEOUS RULES
(because i always remember things too late)
--Only certain types of Pokémon can be found in certain areas. For example, you won't catch an Alakazam outside of Pallet Town (unless someone's escaped or it was specifically plot-based, of course).
--If you have a question about the rules, post it on this board (but not this thread) or PM me (gRav). I am willing to bend them on occasion, so if you have a request or question, like I said, just send me a PM.
--Enjoy the site! ^^
